You are not seeing double, this is my new logo.
Well last night I broke the infamous 200,000 Alexa mark. I can hear the crowd roaring….like when Bubba Watson won the Master’s yesterday! If you haven’t noticed by a few mentions in the posts I am an avid golfer or should I say hacker.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. A few weeks back I was scouring the Craigslist ads looking for a graphic designer to design me a professional logo. If you would like to see the old one click here. What do you think?
If you are anything like me with a site making a few quarters a month you would not want to pay an arm and a leg for a logo. I use Craigslist for everything; I had someone paint my house last year from the site. Well I came across a few ads and shot them both an email. I received a reply from John Meher Jr., and as you can see the rest is history!
Come to find out that graphic design is not the only thing that he does. Here is a list of the other services he offers: Google can’t find you? No problem, John offers search engine optimization (SEO) consulting and website editing. He offers a variety of other services including tweaking articles and “link back” consulting to get you to top ranking on Google! John is in the process of setting up a website where he will begin selling WordPress themes and also a site that will be dedicated to blogging about PHP programming.
The power of the web is ever present today, I went on Craigslist and found someone in my area backyard to assist me with logo design and found out he offers a wealth of other services.

The new logo is pretty awesome, and congratulations on the Alexa score! I’m creeping towards breaking below 1 million and am stoked about that, but 200K, that’s GREAT!

CONGRATS!! That is awesome! I was able to break the 200k mark over a weekend as well. Nothing like signing off on Friday and coming back on Monday to a sub 200k rank!
I love the new logo and certainly think it’s an improvement on the old one! I never thought about checking craigslist when I was searching. I used an online company called logonerds and loved them (they were super cheap).
I can’t wait until I make more than two quarters a month so I can start paying somebody to help me with the SEO and design stuff! When that rolls around I might have to shoot Mr. John an email.
@ Jason – It sure was a great feeling to check things this morning. It moves a lot slower downward now though.
I try to use Craigslist for everything. I like the idea of using local work if I can, if not that is when I take my search to Google!
Shoot John an email now if you want and you will be pleasantly surprised at what he offers and rates.
Loving the new logo! John did a great job at designing it, and you must be feeling like the Golden Eagle for having it.
I wouldn’t have thought of using Craigslist to seek services. There have been so many negative news stories associated with the site; the most famous being the murder of the young female masseuse. In any event, I’m glad that you were able to find great service through Craigstlist.

Congratulations on Alexa – it feels great when this happens. What I did next, is pretty much to forget about it because an obsession with rankings is never good for me.

@ Maria – Thank you, I used to check it every hour when I first started not knowing when it updated. I think it updates over night now, so I just check in the morning. I know the obsessing as I used to do it too!!!

Sorry but I’ve gotta go against the crowd a bit on the logo. I’m probably just a lot more picky having been involved in managing websites for so long.
On its own it looks great, but in my opinion it is a bit too tall, especially with the slogan underneath. It creates a lot of awkward white space in the header. I personally like a header to take up minimal space so that the prime screen real estate is used to its full advantage.
As for outsourcing, I prefer other sites other than craigslist for website work. I find there are usually better prices when you are willing to hire someone who isn’t local. John seems to do good work though. Maybe get him to see if he can fix the white space issue though.
@ Jeremy- thanks for the criticism. I agree with the line underneath. I didnt know where to put it, maybe I will get rid of it. The logo itself is just the quarter with the words next to it. I will work on the text below. I will run it by him to see what he thinks..thanks for the feedback!
I love Craigslist. Every piece of furniture I own, that didn’t come from relatives, came from Craigslist or Freecycle.
@ Edward – finally someone else who has the same passion and love for Craigslist that I do. I browse the site sometimes just looking what people are selling. It has become an addiction!

Yay on 200k (198,478) according to my toolbar! I think the logo looks very sharp. As several others have said, most of my furniture, my former roommate and tennis buddy, and my dog walking clients have all come via craigslist. Gotta love that site.
@ Kari – It is a great site, I am in shock when people haven’t heard of the site. I like to try new things. So I have bought and sold snowblowers on there just to see which one I liked. Sometimes I buy low and sell them in a week or so and make a decent profit.

Just to let you know, when I saw “In Chris we trust” on the right side of the new logo I read “In Christ we trust.” So realizing I misread it plus the obvious play of putting you in the place of God… It’s kind of leaving a bad taste in my mouth, honestly. You probably didn’t think much about that but I just wanted to let you know.
@ Emily – Thanks for letting me know. I never had any intention of being sacrilegious. I am using it as advertisement to come visit This That and The MBA and that you should trust the sound financial information provided by me. The quarter is a monetary symbol of finance and money and that is why I chose it.
