Sharing Goods to Reduce Consumption and Cut Waste + MORE

How much does Jack Reacher’s Financial Independence cost? It’s 4th of July! Independence Day is my favorite holiday of the year, not Christmas like many people’s. The weather is finally nice in Portland and the Blues Festival is playing outside our windows. Throw in a little BBQ and that’s what life is all about. Today, we’re going to join Pauline’s Financial Independence Carnival and see a different side of FI…

Last week, I told you about the advice Warren Buffett is all too happy to offer, but most investors seem to ignore.
Today, I’m going to share with you — in the hopes that we can all heed his words a little more closely — the seemingly "magic" formula he uses to consistently beat the market…

Jobs Recovery? Keep Dreaming

– libertyinvestor.com

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” These are the opening lyrics of Queen’s epic rock ballad “Bohemian Rhapsody.” For years, rumors circulated about the meaning of this iconic song, including a popular theory that it was a metaphor for Freddie Mercury’s battle with AIDS…

“Smart” by Shel Silverstein

“Smart” by Shel Silverstein
Came across this money poem and thought you’d enjoy it 🙂
“Smart”
My dad gave me one dollar bill
‘Cause I’m his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
‘Cause two is more than one!
And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes — I guess he don’t know
That three is more than two!
Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just ’cause he can’t see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!
And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!
And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head–
Too proud of me to speak!

Understanding 2013′s New Taxes

– libertyinvestor.com

It’s time to clear away the confusion about some new taxes for 2013: the 3.8 percent tax on investment income and changes that affect the alternative minimum tax. Act now, or you’ll have an unpleasant surprise when completing your 2013 tax returns in 2014.
The 3.8 percent investment income tax is separate from all other taxes and is part of Obamacare, or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010…

Sharing Goods to Reduce Consumption and Cut WasteModern society comes with a lot of “I need it’s”, doesn’t it? Everywhere you look, television, billboards, the Internet, magazines, newspapers and radios try to tell us what we need to buy and consume in order to be happy. Those smiley faces aren’t paid the big bucks without reason. Happiness sell! The marketers are very good at their jobs, and every single one of us falls for it at some point or another no matter how hard we try to avoid it…

When I see tax returns for do-it-yourself investors, I am often struck by how much tax they pay on their investments.
Many high net worth investors also pay a lot of tax on their investments in “Separately Managed Accounts” (SMAs), which are marketed as being tax-efficient. With an SMA, you hire a portfolio manager directly to manage your account…

How to Move Out of Your Parents’ Home for the First TimeOne of the scariest times of young person’s life is when moving out of their parents’ home for the first time. It can be even more intimidating than going off to live at college, if only because at that time you’re still under your parents’ wing . . . financially speaking.
When you move out of your parents’ home for the first time, it has an air of permanence about it…

Today is the Fourth of July, the day our nation celebrates its independence. It’s a day that many Americans take pride in, celebrating it by taking the day off, enjoying a picnic or a party, and setting off fireworks. As a nation, we hold independence as a strong value.
On the other side of that grand national story are all of the individual stories we all can tell of our own lives…

Happy Fourth of July! What Financial “Independence” Means to Me
To everyone who lives in the United States: Happy Fourth of July!
Today is Independence Day here in the United States. While I absolutely love history, I will let Wikipedia give you the history lesson because today I want to talk about a different sort of independence: Financial Independence.
Financial Independence to me consists of the following:

No need to work another day in my life – If I truly reached “financial independence” it would mean I would have enough income-producing assets to live off of for the rest of my life…

How To Give Back on July 4th

– budgetblonde.com

How To Give Back on July 4thHappy 4th, y’all! Last night the hubs and I caught the movie Olympus Has Fallen, which I guess is somewhat appropriate for the holiday, despite being super violent and all that.
But hey, what’s not to love about a $8 date on buy one get one free movie night here in Grenada? Oh, and the popcorn is super cheap too, but that’s detratracting from the point of this post… which is that normally I am pretty happy to be on this island, but it’s hard not to miss the U…

Get Fit for Less with Activity Monitors
I’m not much for paying attention to what I eat or how often I exercise, but when I started gaining weight, my doctor questioned if my new medication was to blame, or if it was my lifestyle. She suggested that I keep a food and exercise diary, but then quickly changed her mind as she watched my kids tumble across the exam table…

How to Spy On Your Own Emails

– moneytalksnews.com

How to Spy On Your Own EmailsSupposedly, what the National Security Agency collects from emails is metadata, not their contents. The contents would be what you typed in — the body of the message, along with the subject line. Most of us would consider that the important part. But metadata reveals a lot about us, too: whom we communicate with, when, how often, and from which computers…
