Leadership Lessons from Bill Gates

Leadership Lessons from Bill Gates

leadership qualities

Bill Gates, a name that needs no introduction is among one of the greatest leaders and entrepreneurs that our generation has. There is a lot to learn from his journey.

Create!

There is already a dearth of jobs. We need more people who will create jobs. And the one who can do that is no less than a leader. We all have the power to do more but it’s realisation distinguishes a leader from the crowd. It is very important to believe in yourself to achieve anything in life.

Commit mistakes and learn from them

It is fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.

It is hard to imagine that Bill Gates too must have struggled, right? If you believe that then you are in for a shock. No straight road leads to success. The voyage to that island is a turbulent one, always!

We always remember the part where Bill Gates started a internet revolution of sorts with the introduction of Microsoft. We remember that he, through his hard work become the world’s richest man. We glorify and use the fact that he became successful even after dropping out of Harvard to our defence. But what we choose to ignore is the reality that he chose a more treacherous path that was filled with sleepless nights and hard work. The stature that Microsoft holds now wasn’t made overnight. His blood and sweat, that amount of dedication and most importantly the courage to take decisions which might lead to failures and the never dying spirit has made him what he is now and us his awe struck spectators.

The wise words of Bill Gates rightly say so,

Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.

Live life on your own terms

One can only take lessons from the learned souls, this article as such, and get inspired from people like Bill Gates and Elon Musk. Do not think that completely following a great leader will turn out the same way as it turned out for them. In a nutshell, make your own rules and live by them. Every story is unique. Don’t get into thinking that if you have a great idea then dropping out of college will make you the next Bill Gates. Your story can be written by you only and not be dictated by  success stories of others.

Take criticism in your stride

Bill Gates says, “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.”

Instead of taking the negative feedback personally, pause for a second and think. The one mistake or inefficiency that a customer pointed out could end up becoming your positive. After all the ones who criticize your work are the ones who wish for your growth.

We all need people who will give us feedback. That is how we improve.

Donate

Always give back to the society, to nature that has been your silent strength all along the way. Bill Gates along with his wife, Melinda Gates started a philanthropic organisation to help the needy and the underprivileged. It is our responsibility to give back to the society that gives us everything. People with such attitude become great leaders.

Lastly, never forget that leaders are not born, but made!
