Ingenious Ways to Save Money Whilst Visiting London

The city of London is one of the biggest cultural hotspots in the whole of Britain, with a veritable feast of activity and sightseeing to satisfy natives and tourists alike. However, being such a tourist hub it can often prove expensive to have an enjoyable and affordable day, or days, out in London.

Despite this there are many cost effective solutions which allow one to have an affordable visit to London, whilst also being able to enjoy the true London experience. Many of these are listed below.

Travelling in London:

The cheapest and most efficient way of travelling around London is undoubtedly by public transport. This will predominantly and generally involve rail services, both underground and overground.

The most cost effective way of travelling around London is via the Oyster travel card, which is a form of electronic ticketing, valid for London Underground and Overground services, London buses, trams, national rail and London River Services.

In terms of pricing Oyster cards work much like bus and train tickets, with the option for single, all-day, weekly, monthly and annual tickets, both peak and off-peak. The pricing is also determined by which zones of London are being travelled to, from and through. A unique perk to the Oyster card is that it also works much like a pay-as-you-go phone, whereby the owner can top up credit as and when it is required.

Things to do in London:

Whilst there are many choices of things to do during a visit to London, the best deals can probably be found on discount websites like Groupon. These websites offer discounts and promotional offers on days out, activities, trips and experiences. Of course there is always the west end and see a popular show such as Wicked the musical. There are several tickets sites which offer great deals on tickets year round, namely Leicester Square Booking Office, or perhaps take in some modern Opera from the English National Opera.

The vouchers for these can be found online via the websites and include offers for things such as skin treatment, art classes, bar and restaurant discounts, wine tasting, spa days, yoga and pilates classes, paintballing and many, many more.

These vouchers generally offer a percentage discount on the activity in question and can be acquired as a hard copy – printed off the computer, or as a digital copy sent to a mobile phone and presented via text message.

Places to Eat in London:

There are hundreds of different alternatives for eating when visiting London, though the best way to save some money is definitely the use of the Tastecard.

This is a card useable in many eateries and restaurants, the list of which can be found on the website. The card offers a 50% discount on food, or a 2 for 1 offer, in selected restaurants, including Prezzo, Ask, Cafe Rouge, Yates’s, Pizza Express and a plethora of others.

  1. I don’t think anyone is oblivious to the fact that this is an expensive city to live in, particularly where renting an apartment is concerned, so you want to pinch your pence where you can.
