Should you Focus on Getting an Early Job or should you Continue with Further Studies?

Focus on job or study

This is a dilemma which can be argued about for quite a while. There is a constant confusion in the mind of many if they must get a job as soon as college is over (graduation) or should they continue gaining knowledge about their field through the expert education of post graduation. But do not worry any more, we’re here to help you sail through this stormy phase of your life absolutely. The more people you talk to or ask for advice, the most options and variety of answers you get. This is only likely to confuse you further and not give you any proper solution to your dilemma.

In my personal opinion, it first depends on where you’re doing your post graduation from. If it’s abroad, then it is highly recommended to go after a certain period of work experience because that’s what they demand in order to give you a place at their university. There is no questioning about that. They feel that if you have work experienced, you bring valued ideas and techniques of work to help the university and your fellow classmates as well. However, this is not a compulsion in India. Though in India too, it increases your chances of securing a seat by answering the interview questions well, it is not mandatory. For example, without job experiences can also get admission to an MBA college in India. This is impossible abroad. Indeed, some experience is necessary in the requisite field, before taking up such a practical job. The employers entrust you with their businesses, which have been built on lots of hard work and good decisions. An individual who does not have in depth knowledge about the ins and out of the industry will possibly, end up taking the wrong decisions and causing unnecessary harm to the company. Is it really a fair thing to do?

Working beforehand gets you an edge over those who have no experience in the field. This means what is taught in class will be easily understood by you since most likely you will have already used the concept at your workplace or at least heard of the process. This make your understanding faster and gives you an upper edge. There is no hurry to get over with high education. It must be done with complete knowledge and insight. However, if you’d like to work on a full-time job and get a degree at the same time, this can be possible through online learning. A human resources mba, for example, can be obtained at your preferred schedule and place. Most people now prefer an online degree as this will lessen the hassle of attending a physical classroom.

Lastly, it is also often felt that how can you take money from your parents for post graduation. This is not an element of ego or arrogance. It simply means that you have lived off your parents’ funding for quite a while and wish to finance your education on your own. Thus, working for some time and making money before going for higher education is totally fine and acceptable. You must not feel that your friends are going to get over with theirs before you. In case you cannot sponsor yourself totally, you may do it jointly with your parents.

Thus, you may go for some time of work before your higher education!
