The Summer brings about outdoor play, lots of Sunshine and plenty of family time via backyard BBQ fun. However the past few Summers have also brought about increased heat and high temperature days, so we thought it a good idea to come up with a few smart ideas on how to beat the heat and do it while saving a good penny as well.
There’s no reason why you should have to pay retail for your home cooling needs including a window a/c unit, a state of the art central air system, improved appliances and so on. If you’re in the market for any of these items this Summer below we look at four ways to save for any or all of these items.
4 Ways To Save And Beat The Heat This Summer
1. Shop Store Sales on Window A/C Units –
We recently needed an extra window air conditioning unit for our office and decided to go online and scavenge for a discounted unit. After looking around about, we found Walmart.com had a great deal on a smaller model which cost us less than $100 for a brand new unit. This is a great deal on an air conditioner and as such we snatched it and now have a cool office during the day that we can work comfortably in. Our advice for you is to go online and shop around till you find a good deal on the type of a/c unit that fits your family’s need.
2. Keep Windows Closed And Blinds Rolled Down –
Another often overlooked method to keep the Sun and heat out during the scorching Summer days is to keep your windows shut tight and your blinds or curtains pulled down to keep the hot air out. Any temp above 85 degrees should force you to close any and all your windows and also blinds or curtains, but when it drops below this temp – you can and should reopen them to let fresh air inside the home. This small trick will make a big difference in your home’s inside temp.
3. Use A Water Filter At Home –
Since it’s advised that you drink lots of water to stay hydrated during the heated dog days of Summer, one way to save BIG is to get your family a water filter and drink your home’s tap water. Instead of stocking up and buying lots of expensive bottled water, drink tap instead but filter it with a good water filter. These can go anywhere from $20 to $100 but will last you quite some time and clean or purify your tap water. A good investment indeed.
4. Stay Hydrated –
When you’re hydrated you don’t feel as hot as you do when you’re dehydrated. So the trick is to drink lots of cool water throughout the day and if you’re going to be outdoors, even more so. Always keep fresh and cool water at the ready when out and about, and when at home – you should drink plenty of liquids as well. Staying hydrated is one of the BEST things you can do when it’s hot outside and generally during the Summertime.
Even though we have had unusually hot Summers these past few years, there are things you can do keep your cool. Try our tips above for an exciting, heat controlled and fun filled Summer.
